A cowbell, MSU's longstanding symbol of Bulldog pride, rests in the center of a sunbathed Drill Field pathway on Tuesday afternoon [Aug. 5]. According to legend, the cowbell was introduced when a wandering cow became a good luck charm after strolling onto the field during a victorious home football game. Later, students started bringing cowbells for luck, and that tradition continues today.
